Primer of applied regression & analysis of variance

簡介(Book Description from Amazon):

Primer of Applied Regression & Analysis of Variance is a textbook especially created for medical, public health, and social and environmental science students who need applied (not theoretical) training in the use of statistical methods. The book has been acclaimed for its user-friendly style that makes complicated material understandable to readers who do not have an extensive math background.
The text is packed with learning aids that include chapter-ending summaries and end-of-chapter problems that quickly assess mastery of the material. Examples from biological and health sciences are included to clarify and illustrate key points. The techniques discussed apply to a wide range of disciplines, including social and behavioral science as well as health and life sciences. Typical courses that would use this text include those that cover multiple linear regression and ANOVA.

Once you've learned the basic principles of statistics, how can a biologist learn more advanced techniques? Many books focus on math rather than on understanding concepts. Other books are too narrow -- discussing only a single method. And books that focus on multiple regression and ANOVA tend to have examples from psychology and social sciences.
Glantz, Slinker and Neilands do a great job of explaining the principles of multiple regression, analysis of variance, and analysis of covariance. The focus is not on mathematical proofs, but rather on making sense of the results in the context of biological and medical research. All three authors are biological scientists, so focus the book on practical methods of analyzing data, with in-depth discussion of the many issues that can come up.
This book also has excellent chapters on linear regression, nonlinear regression (curve fitting), logistic regression, and proportional hazards regression.
The title is a bit misleading. This is not a "primer" of statistics. But once you've learned the basic principles of statistics, this is THE book for biologists to learn about various kinds of ANOVAS and regressions.

Agree this is an excellent book, and was even in the first edition. Written by biomedical experts, this book assumes very little prior knowledge but takes the reader through some of the important advanced topics. Extremely well written and accessible. Even after years of experience, I still refer back to the book for a refresher on one topic or another.
