Yao & Artusio's anesthesiology

簡介(Book Description from Barnes and Noble):
Yao and Artusio's Anesthesiology is one of the core texts for anesthesiology residents, and is frequently used as one of the primary study aids for the ABA oral boards. The book covers all areas of anesthesia. Each chapter is based on a case history and questions that address disease knowledge and differential diagnosis, progressing through preoperative evaluation, intraoperative management, and postoperative care. The discussion of each question is followed by a short list of the most important references on that topic. This edition's new full-color format significantly improves the readability of the book. Pediatric topics are grouped into a new section, rather than incorporated into the organ-based sections.

Customer Reviews from Amazon :

Excellent learning option
From the moment I bought, became a partner in studies and professional enrichment activities. Excellent and fun option for knowledge recycling.

Best for Oral Board Review along with Ho books
With Michael Ho book are good Oral Board preparation tools. I won't say it is a good solo source, it is more of a reference.

Neuroanatomy through clinical cases

簡介(Book Description from Amazon):
Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases brings a pioneering interactive approach to the teaching of neuroanatomy, using over 100 actual clinical cases and high-quality radiologic images to bring the subject to life. The Second Edition is fully updated with the latest advances in the field, and includes several exciting new cases. This approach allows students to appreciate the clinical relevance of structural details as they are being learned, and to integrate knowledge of disparate functional systems, since a single lesion may affect several different neural structures and pathways. Most of the book comprises chapters that explain the major neuroanatomical systems. Each chapter first presents background material including an overview of relevant neuroanatomical structures and pathways, and a brief discussion of related clinical disorders. The second half of each chapter is devoted to clinical cases. The cases begin with a narrative of how the patient developed symptoms, and what deficits were found upon neurological examination. Boldface type highlights important symptoms and signs. A series of questions challenges the reader to deduce the neuroanatomical location of the patient s lesion, and the diagnosis. Discussion and answers follow, and an epilogue reveals the actual outcome. One of the book s most innovative features is the inclusion of CT and MRI scans that depict each patient s lesion. These radiographs help the reader develop skills in interpreting the same kinds of diagnostic images employed in clinical practice.

Neuroanatomy Illuminated
One often wonders if it is worth buying a second edition of any textbook let alone a neuroanatomy textbook, upon receiving the second edition of Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases by Hal Blumenfeld, MD, PhD the answer is an enthusiastic YES! Students of neuroanatomy often complain about the dryness of the subject and the difficulties they encounter when trying to memorize all the terms, areas and connections. This book provides excellent solutions to both of these issues. The book is organized in a standard fashion around holistic systems (eg. Chapter 7: Somatosensory Pathways, Chapter 11: Visual System) and where appropriate anatomical areas (eg. Chapter 15: Cerebellum), but embedded within each chapter are helpful mnemonics too help the student master the necessary material.
In order to bring the material to life Dr. Blumenfeld has collected an enormous (expanded since the first edition) amount of relevant clinical cases that he encountered while serving as Neurologist at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital. These real world cases (>100 are detailed) and the associated clinical documentation (MRI's, CT scans, blood work....) provide immediate clinical relevance for the anatomy covered in each chapter. Traditionally these two concepts (anatomy and clinical correlations) are often treated as almost distinct topics and it is refreshing to see them treated in parallel in such a comprehensive manner. The clinical cases reinforce the need to understand the underlying anatomy and for each case questions are asked that help direct the reader to determining the site of the lesion/disorder. Many books that concentrate on clinical correlations treat the anatomy as almost an afterthought and that is certainly not the case here with detailed schematics, drawings and images showing all the relevant and necessary anatomy. Another highlight is the inclusion of high quality neuroradiological images to complement the traditional gross sections. In the hospital setting most physicians are confronted by neuroanatomy via CT scans or MRIs and the heavy inclusion of this material make this book a must read not only for medical and graduate students but for residents and fellows as well.
Taking advantage of new media there is an online supplement [...]that emphasizes the clinical cases and how the site of lesions can be determined using the standard neurological exam. Throughout the text (including a dedicated chapter) there are clear examples of Dr. Blumenfeld conducting the neurological exam that are relevant to the anatomical area detailed in the chapter. For the student there are study guides at the end of each chapter to make sure important details are learned. Well organized additional readings are suggested by topic for all the important issues covered in the preceding chapter.
As the director of a Clinical Neuropsychology program I had enthusiastically recommended the first edition to our students and I will continue to do so for the new and improved second edition.

Absolutely Brilliant for a Terrifying Topic
I loved this book! During my first year of medical school, neuroanatomy was a beast. I couldn't get the basics down, as all the other books, including many review books, required an almost unattainable baseline of knowledge. I got fed up, and read this book cover to cover in two weeks. I was completely prepared for my exam, and suddenly, all of the other books made sense.

It is the pictures and excellent clinical correlations that make this book come alive. If you school tests with "board style questions" i.e. mini clinical vignettes as a question, this book is your new best friend for your neuro class. It's expensive, but worth it. Buy this first, and then might I recommend High Yield Neuroanatomy as your review guide.

Neuroanatomy Through Clinical Cases, Second Edition
This book is clearly the best teaching text on neuroanatomy. Teaching through cases is a time-honored method and helps the material to sink in to the student. The figures and photos make this complex subject easy to understand. The text is up to date scientifically. It is also a good reference tool for neurolgists. I can't recommend this any higher.

No major changes, same good'ol text
The new edition of Blumenfeld has no major changes from the past edition. Nonetheless it is THE book for neurology, neuroanatomy. With a wonderful companion website that is open to the public (neuroexam.com), the book illustrates the details, but not the over-details of the nervous system. It contains the illustrations that the other Neurology bible lacks (Adams and Viktor).
Highly recommended textbook, a core and must have book for serious neurology students and professors.

THE BEST NEUROLOGY BOOK
I AM A NEUROLOGIST AND CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS BOOK. IT IS EASY TO READ AND UNDERSTANDING NEUOANATOMY MAKES MY WORK MORE FUN. I AM A BETTER DOCTOR AFTER READING THIS BOOK. I RECOMMEND IT FOR NEUROLOGY RESIDENTS AND NEUROLOGISTS. GREAT BOOK. ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER READ.

CLEAR and THOROUGH
This book is a must for all Physical Therapists that are working with patients that have neuro diagnosis. It is clearly written with a wealth of case studies to facilitate the learning process

absolutely necessary
I bought this book at the beginning of the term and didn't open it until I got desperate halfway through.
Other than the drugs, cancer, and histology&pathology sections of the course, this book had everything. It is laid out better, it is integrated from clinical presentation, to exam, imaging, diagnosis and discussion.
I read the book from cover to cover, and went from failing miserably to passing with better than class average. If you read the book as it is laid out, you will build on the concepts and it will introduce key points at relevant times. By the end, you will be able to think through the anatomy instead of trying to just remember a bunch of factoids.
The imaging in the book is amazing and well explained, and the cases are real. The language is very descriptive, and the illustrations and figures are great. The cranial nerves and blood supply chapters are highlights.
It shouldn't be your ONLY Neuro book, but you will use it every day even after reading it.
If I ever see Dr. Blumenfeld, I'm going to hug his leg like a little child.

Umiker's Management Skills
I ordered this book as a used/good condition book and was pleasantly surprised when it came and was what I would call gently used, better than I expected. It arrived on time and in very nice condition. Very happy with my purchase, the only thing that could have made it better is if it came with someone to do my homework too!

The essential physics of medical imaging

簡介(Book Description from Barnes and Noble):

This renowned work is derived from the authors' acclaimed national review course (“Physics of Medical Imaging") at the University of California-Davis for radiology residents. The text is a guide to the fundamental principles of medical imaging physics, radiation protection and radiation biology, with complex topics presented in the clear and concise manner and style for which these authors are known. Coverage includes the production, characteristics and interactions of ionizing radiation used in medical imaging and the imaging modalities in which they are used, including radiography, mammography, fluoroscopy, computed tomography and nuclear medicine.  Special attention is paid to optimizing patient dose in each of these modalities. Sections of the book address topics common to all forms of diagnostic imaging, including image quality and medical informatics as well as the non-ionizing medical imaging modalities of MRI and ultrasound.
The basic science important to nuclear imaging, including the nature and production of radioactivity, internal dosimetry and radiation detection and measurement, are presented clearly and concisely. Current concepts in the fields of radiation biology and radiation protection relevant to medical imaging, and a number of helpful appendices complete this comprehensive textbook. The text is enhanced by numerous full color charts, tables, images and superb illustrations that reinforce central concepts. The book is ideal for medical imaging professionals, and  teachers and students in medical physics and biomedical engineering. Radiology residents will find this text especially useful in bolstering their understanding of imaging physics and related topics prior to board exams.

Customer Reviews from Amazon :

After reading several chapters of this new edition, I am compelled by my excitement about it to write this review here. The 3rd Edition of "Bushberg" is not just a newer version of the already-classic textbook; it is entirely a new book. Its contents are largely rewritten, with vivid illustrations added for almost every concept mentioned in the text. For example, the chapter of Computed Tomography (Chapter 10) now contains 72 figures, without even counting figure subsets; that is more than one figure per page. Everything is illustrated.
The reorganization of content and addition of numerous colorful figures have fundamentally improved this book, and may set a new standard for future medical physics textbooks. Now those physics concepts in medical imaging are much easier to understand. After reading the institutional copy in preparation for teaching a class, I decided to order a copy for myself to replace my old edition (and come here to tell everybody about it). In my opinion, the 3rd Edition of this book will set a high standard for future medical physics textbooks.

Rhinoplasty

簡介(Book Description from Barnes and Noble):
The most demanding and challenging of all aesthetic surgical procedures, rhinoplasty is made easily accessible in this practical, how-to book from the worlds leading practitioners. Not only does Rhinoplasty: Cases and Techniques demonstrate a wide array of approaches, techniques, outcomes, and surgical pearls, tips, and nuances, but it also offers a unique cross-cataloguing feature that is especially helpful for referencing specific deformities and the procedures used to correct them.

Customer Reviews from Amazon :

Wonderful reference for novices and experts
A wonderfully organized, well thought out reference for rhinoplasty surgeons with many different levels of experience. For the novice, it reviews many simple and advanced rhinoplasty techniques and then shows how these techniques can be applied to a given nasal deformity. For the experienced surgeon, it serves as a quick reference for the night before a case, demonstrating how experts in the field approach cases like yours. I'm sure it will be a useful tool for me for years to come.

Excellent Rhinoplasty guide for the seasoned or novice rhinoplasty surgeon
I have probably every article and book published on the topic of rhinoplasty and this is one of the best. The highlight of this book is simply its organization. Each nasal deformity is indexed so that you can quickly find solutions for each problem area of the nose that you want to correct. Secondly, you are not getting just one surgeons approach to the problem area. A myriad of techniques/approaches for each problem are presented from several different rhinoplasty experts. This title also has a accompanying online video index that covers all the basic rhinoplasty pearls and some advance techniques as well. I will keep this book handing for quick reference for difficult cases.

Handbook of mentalizing in mental health practice

簡介(Book Description from Barnes and Noble):
Mentalizing is the fundamental human capacity to "read" one's own and others' mental states such as thoughts and feelings. The editors of Handbook of Mentalizing in Mental Health Practice have authored two previous books aimed at establishing mentalizing as a developmental and clinical concept. Here they further explore mentalizing as a fundamental psychological process and seek to extend its use across a wide range of disorders, particularly in the treatment of patients with personality disorders and in preventive intervention in childhood. The first part of the book helps the reader understand the impact of a mentalizing perspective on the treatment of patients in different psychotherapy contexts. The second part focuses on the patient, identifying effective techniques for a variety of illnesses, including depression, trauma, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, and drug addiction. Throughout, the contributors persuasively argue that the promotion of "mind-mindedness" in both patient and clinician is critical to any therapy. Across modalities, Handbook of Mentalizing in Mental Health Practice is essential reading for mental health clinicians.

Customer Reviews from Amazon :

Mentalizing is a wonderful therapeutic addition to my practice
The book was received within a short time, in perfect condition. It answers my needs in my practice -- I wanted to add a little something more to my therapy practice in which I use various therapies including CBT, geshtault, NLP, Redecision therapy, Transactional Analysis, and have integrated them into the theory and therapy that I have developed, KEG cards (Keys to Emotional Growth) and the book Mentalizing fits right into my integrative approach. I especially enjoy the varied connections between mentalizing process and many different types of therapy.

An enjoyable way to approach the dermatology.
The work is a masterpiece. It's not, probably, as deep as the Fitz, but if you need a tool wich bring you by your hand to understand all the practical aspects of the speciality..... this is your book. The flow charts are useful, clear and easy to read and overall very pragmatic.
A lot of chapters are very up to date.
