This important volume is the first to address the use of neuroimaging in civil and criminal forensic contexts and to include discussion of prior precedents and court decisions. Equally useful for practicing psychiatrists and psychologists, it reviews both the legal and ethical consideraitons of neuroimaging.
Neuroimaging and Forensic Psychiatry
This book credibly fills a void in an important forensic area. It contains chapters on relevant subject areas written by an impressive collection of authors recognized as leaders in their research and publications. It is concisely written and comprehensible even to the lay reader.
This book is essential reading for all forensic psychiatrists and psychologists. It is also highly relevant and illuminating to general psychiatrists, psychologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and radiologists. It is a useful resource for prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys. It would serve as a practical reference for civil injury, disability and workers' compensation attorneys. It would be helpful to judges, prison/jail authorities and both parole and probation officers. The information in this book could assist medical, psychiatric and psychiatric treatment teams in penal institutions.
The text contains a though balanced discussion of the scientific data. There is direct analysis of the application of the science to critical legal issues.
The reader learns an awareness of the advances in the field which will eventually lead to more use in both civil and criminal cases. There is a provocative discussion of where science meets concepts of causation and criminal responsibility. One is left with a humbling appreciation of the complexity and limits of the field.
This book should be a required reading in any forensic teaching program. The value of this text will only increase over time as the science and its forensic applications expand.
Groundbreaking Science in the Interface of Law, the Brain and Neuroimaging
this book presents groundbreaking science at the interface of law and psychiatry. It is well presented and referenced. It is a must for any forensic psychologist/ psychiatrist. You cannot think about forensic cases any more without reference to neurolaw and this book opens new pathways to thinking about the interface and the benefits of neuroimaging for our clients and patients. The future is now.
Excellent professional resource
This book is both practical and has sufficient depth on all aspects of neuroimaging evidence. I am using it as a handbook but I think that it is also an excellent resource for the students at the graduate and undergraduate level.
