簡介(Book Description from Barnes & Noble):
Designed as an easy-to-use and comprehensive reference for the practicing pathologist,
Diagnostic Pathology: Head and Neck is the highly anticipated title in the
Diagnostic Pathology series offered by Amirsys. This book is a multiauthored, comprehensive overview of the pathology of head and neck essentials, including the thyroid and parathyroid glands. The Amirsys-pioneered bulleted text is easy to follow with detailed information per disease entity. As with our other
Diagnostic Pathology titles, chapters include definitions, terminology, etiologies and pathogenesis, demographics, clinical presentations, therapy, prognoses, radiologic imaging, pathology, and differential diagnoses. The pathologic features are extensively detailed with descriptions of the macroscopic features, microscopic findings, cytopathology (as indicated), and as needed, ancillary studies. The latter include histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics and ultrastructural findings. Each entity is enhanced by superior medical images, including gross and microscopic pathology, a wide range of pathology stains, and detailed medical illustrations. In addition, you’ll find cancer staging and specimen examination protocols—one of the most useful hallmarks of the series—plus detailed immunohistochemistry panels. This state-of-the-art volume will guide the reader through the intricacies of head and neck pathology to provide the information required in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of head and neck pathology.
Customer Reviews from Amazon :
LOVE this book!
This is my new favorite 'go to' book for head and neck pathology. It is a perfect combination of a pathology reference text and atlas. What I really like is the clear and concise, yet extremely thorough bullet style organization. Additionally, it is packed with great quality histology and clinical images. Tables comparing differential diagnoses and IHC stains are most helpful. This complete pathology text book is definitely worth the cost!!
The one and only H&N pathology book you will need
Excellent book.
Definitely worth the money.
Comprehensive, yet well organized with clean summaries
Tables with "key facts"makes it easy to review topics quickly
High quality images
Excellent for practicing Otolaryngologists & Pathologists
Good for ENT residents preparing for board examinations.
Comprehensive and beautifully packaged resource
Some pathology books are big on text and short on pictures, some are big on pictures, but short on text.
For me, I prefer salient points outlined textually, with as many pictures as are needed to highlight the pertinent issues, coupled together with diagnostically useful tables and charts. Drs. Thompson and Wenig (et. al.)'s voluminous creation does that with elan.
The illustrations run the gamut, including superbly chosen and exceptionally reproduced photomicrographs (H&E and relevant IHCs), pertinent clinical and gross photographs, diagnostically useful radiographs, CT scans, and MRI's, and beautifully rendered CAD anatomic diagrams. Tables and text boxes include trim and tidy "Key Facts" (which I love), to relevant immunohistochemical staining profiles, classification schemes (and their interfaces, when relevant), current staging information, prognostic categories, and CAP protocol data for malignancies.
The text is in a bulletized format - which I prefer. Category headings include; terminology, etiology, clinical issues, image findings, macroscopic features, microscopic pathology, ancillary tests, and differential diagnosis
(as appropriate).
I frequently meander between several texts when I try to figure out head and neck cases - this one textbook will, I suspect, supplant all the rest. For those pathologists and residents who appreciate slightly more than the
"standard" number of illustrations and bulletized lists of key diagnostic elements, this book is a must-have.
At $300.00+, it is a bit pricey - however, the exceptionally high production value is evident on every page.
A clear, beautiful illustrated deskside reference
In a world of progressively increasing costs for medical references, one needs to become selective about what books are worth your time and investment. This book is one I'd like to recommend as being worthy of both.
The book is an extremely thorough, almost encyclopedic reference on head and neck pathology. The subject matter is well organized. Each topic is covered in a pithy point-form manner, rather than with harder to read narratives, and it is easy to find the key clinical, microscopic and special studies needed to come to a precise diagnosis. Each topic is thoroughly illustrated with gross and microscopic photographs. The authors also offer excellent discussions of differential diagnosis. I've used the book to help work up a number of challenging cases and found it a fast and most useful aid.
If you need one good H&N pathology reference, this is the one that should be sitting beside your microscope.
The latest and greatest H&N pathology text (a must-have!)
This textbook is, without a doubt, the ONLY Head & Neck pathology resource you'll ever need.
I'm very familiar with this and other books in the Amirsys Diagnostic Pathology series and am convinced that these are the best books out there today, rivaling and even surpassing all other pathology textbooks -- including the "classics" (that virtually every first-year pathology resident buys out of a sense of obligation and/or fear of not learning what one's supposed to).
This book has multiple outstanding features:
(1) First, it is written in bulleted text that is easy to absorb. It is brief, clear, and easy-to-use. Every chapter includes a Key Facts box that nicely summarizes the entity, and is great for quick reference.
(2) At the same time, the book is exquisitely thorough, including relevant clinical information (presentation, therapy, prognosis), imaging findings, and ancillary studies (special stains, IHC, molecular), in addition to excellent gross and microscopic descriptions.
(3) Furthermore, the chapters include generous differential diagnoses that compare and contrast between entities in a practical fashion.
(4) A unique strength of the book is the plethora of images (>2000), showing variations of the same entity plus its differentials, with rich captions that aim to teach the highlights of the chapter.
(5) Moreover, using sophisticated graphics, many detailed anatomical images were created to illustrate complicated anatomy and help both the junior and practicing pathologist finally visualize some of the obscure landmarks casually mentioned (but not necessarily fully appreciated) in discussions and texts.
(6) It also includes up-to-date cancer staging forms and specimen examination protocols.
(7) Purchase of the book grants access to the corresponding eBook, which includes searchable content and updates.
With over 1000 pages, written by multiple experts, and great references, this encyclopedic text is really the only H&N book you'll need during training and even practice.
Moreover, I invite you to look into other Amirsys books, which are similarly exceptional.
